February 2025 News

Hello NWFTC Members,

It's hard to believe that we're already one month into 2025. I hope everyone had a fun time with the Snowmageddon last week. I even saw some pictures on social media of our members running in the snow - way to keep up the training!

Before I get into it, I want to let everyone know that we're working through some IT issues with our emails (including president@nwftc.com). We're hoping to resolve it within the next week or two. In the meantime, please use the Contact Us option on the website to get in touch via email.

Continue reading on for a recap of the January races, information on February/March races, information on clothing sales, an announcement about the Grand Prix, and information on the next board meeting (spoiler: it's the first Wednesday in February).

January started out with the Back Porch Jetty Run on Saturday, January 4th at 8AM from the Back Porch in Destin. The weather was great for this year's event, and we watched several course records get broken - including the men's overall record by 1 second! There were 63 finishers overall, which is an increase of 14 from last year. I want to thank the Race Director, Trey Horton, and all of the NWFTC members that came to volunteer. You can find the results on our website at the following link: Back Porch Jetty Run Results

The next race in January was the 2nd Annual Viking Color Run 5K on Saturday, January 11th at 8AM from Fort Walton Beach High School. The weather was a little on the chilly side, but that didn't stop the participants from coming out and running. Thank you to the Race Director, Lissette Fields, and the NWFTC members that helped with the finish line. The results are available on our website at the following link: Viking Color Run 5K

January closed out with the Frosty 5K on Saturday, January 25th at 9AM from St. Mary's in FWB. This race lived up to its name again this year - I remember my car windows covered in frost before I left for the race. At least it wasn't rained out this year! The course was flat and not too windy, and the chili afterwards was perfect for the cold weather. Thank you to the Race Director, Jenna Beaty, and all of our NWFTC members that helped with the finish line, timing, and results. The results are listed on our website at the following link: Frosty 5K Results

February brings the NWFTC's Valentines 8K on Saturday, February 8th at 8AM from Ferry Park in FWB. This is a unique opportunity to run as a couple for a chance at the unique award for the couples division. We will also have the usual age categories for individual competitors. The awards ceremony will take place at Ferry Park at the conclusion of the race. Since this is a NWFTC race (and Grand Prix event), we will need some help running the event. Please use the Contact Us link if you're available.  You can sign up in person at Run With It (form below), or online at the following link: Valentines 8K Signup

March starts out with the Lucky Leprechaun 5K and 1mile Fun Run on Saturday, March 15th at 8AM from AJ's on the Bayou in FWB. Note that we have changed from the Downtown FWB location to AJ's for this year (due to bridge construction), and thus there will only be a 5K on Saturday - see next section for 10K information. This is always one of our biggest events of the year, so make sure to show up in your most festive St. Patrick's Day outfits! AJ's on the Bayou always hosts a great after party, and you don't want to miss this. This is a NWFTC race (and Grand Prix event), so please use the Contact Us link if you're available to help. You can sign up in person at Run With It (form below), or online at the following link: Lucky Leprechaun 5K Signup

The Lucky Leprechaun 10K and Get Lucky Half Marathon will both be held on Sunday, March 16th at 7:30AM from Ferry Park in FWB. Note that they will both be the same start time, so you can only participate in one of the events. This is a great chance to get in a longer run before the weather starts to heat up, and I can guarantee the after party will be fun! Like the 5K, this is a NWFTC race (Grand Prix as well), so please use the Contact Us link if you're available to help. You can sign up in person at Run With It (form below), or online at the following link: Lucky Leprechaun 10K / Get Lucky Half Marathon Signup

Moving on to clothing sales: I previously announced the availability of blue hoodies/crew neck sweatshirts and singlets for purchase. A lot of our members have taken this opportunity to get the latest gear and we're starting to run out of some sizes. Please reach out to me (Contact Us) if you're interested in purchasing something that we no longer have in stock. We will plan new orders as needed.

The Grand Prix results have been updated through RTB and can be found here: Grand Prix Results. In order to qualify for the Grand Prix, you must notify us so that we can keep track of all of the results for you. If you don't see your name on the list, please reach out to us (Contact Us) so that we can tally your results thus far.

Our next board meeting will be next Wednesday, February 5th (1st Wednesday!) at 6PM from Rick's Crab Trap in FWB. Hope to see you there!

See y'all at the races!

Drew
